📝 Ingredients:

For the rolls:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 500g (1 lb) ground pork (or pork/beef mix)
  • 100g (½ cup) uncooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp sweet Hungarian paprika

For the sauce & layering:

  • 1 small head of sauerkraut (500–700g), rinsed and drained (optional if you prefer less sourness)
  • 2 tbsp lard or oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
  • 1 tbsp sweet paprika
  • 1½ cups tomato purée or passata
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Salt and pepper
